RESULT: Rajasthan won by 3 wickets Over 20: Mahesh is the man on a hiding to nothing, and he chucks through a full toss which is edged past the keeper for four by Rawat, so that's the ball game.
Over 19: Maharoof continues and strikes with his first ball back, bowling Warne with a slower one that knocks over middle stump. And would you believe it, Watson is run out next ball but umpire Steve David says not out! He doesn't even ask for the third umpire! Sehwag complains, which inevitably upsets Watson, before Davis eventually draws a square in the air and the third umpire sends Watson on his way for a magnificent 74 from 40 deliveries. Dear oh dear, there'll be some fair play points dropped over that. No doubt the players will be gutted (er, not!). Anyway, Mahesh Rawat and Niraj Patel are the two new men tasked with seeing Rajasthan home, and Rawat eventually gets off strike thanks to a misfield by de Villiers of all people. And then Patel gets four with a fine drive through extra cover to take the Royals to the cusp of victory.
Over 18: It's a quiet over from Sangwan, which goes for just 6 runs. However Delhi's poor day in the field is highlighted as Dilshan drops a sitter from Warne at long on.
Over 17: McGrath is brought back in a final throw of the dice, and Warne takes a single from his third ball before Watson edges the next one to the third man boundary. One more single makes it six from the over, and Rajasthan look home and dry.
Over 16: Watson takes a single to put Mascarenhas on strike against Sehwag, and the Englishman gets in on the act with six straight down the ground. But then he gets greedy, and is bowled going for another big shot which was completely unnecessary. Skipper Shane Warne is next in, and he smashes his first ball to the cow corner boundary for four. A single puts Watson on strike, and he makes the result look a foregone conclusion with six over long on.
Over 15: Watson brings up his half century from 32 balls with a single, and Mascarenhas hands back the strike. Having used brute strength to reach fifty, Watson shows some real finesse to dab Mishra down to the third man boundary, before following it up with six over long off. The spinner feels the pressure and bowls a wide, before a single comes off the final delivery of a five-ball over.
Over 14: Virender Sehwag brings himself into the attack and produces an excellent over. There are just three singles, so the tension builds and the reuired run rate climbs another inch.
Over 13: Mishra continues, and the leg spinner gets another breakthrough. Watson's single put Jadeja on strike, and he played across the line only for the googly to nip the top of off stump. That brings Dimitri Mascarenhas to the wicket, and he's off the mark straight away with a single down to long off. Watson would surely have been plumb LBW off the last ball of the over, but it's a no ball! Fortunately for the bowler, Watson can only manage a single from the free hit, so just three runs and a wicket came from that over.
Over 12: Maharoof is brought back as Delhi look to reclaim control, but Watson's single gives Jadeja strike and he gets four past fine leg. Four more runs, which include a wide down leg side, complete the over with Jadeja looking in good nick.
Over 11: Amit Mishra is asked to halt the madness, and breaks the partnership with his fourth delivery. Smith had already got two and four in the midwicket region but then he went for the maximum, only to drop short and see Mahesh take a stunning diving catch in the outfield. Ravindra Jadeja comes to the middle, and gets off the mark with two from his second ball. Over 10: A couple of hammered strokes bring only singles as the boundary fielders do their job, before Smith finds the midwicket boundary from Sangwan's third delivery. Smith takes two from the next ball before handing Watson the strike, and the allrounder strikes a handsome six back over the bowler's head from the final ball of the over. 15 from it, and the momentum is right back in Rajasthan's favour now. Over 9: Watson continues the revival with a handsome six over long off which nearly takes off a ball boy's head. Mahesh oversteps and Watson piles the no ball down the ground for four, and the free hit is also a no ball but this time Watson misses it. The second free hit results in two byes and Watson follows that up with two more as Sehwag puts him down at midwicket! A misfield by Dilshan at point brings a couple more as Delhi really start to unravel, and Watson flicks the final delivery for four in front of square. Shot! 22 off that over, and disaster for Delhi. Over 8: Sangwan continues but drops short, so Smith pulls him to the boundary in front of square on the on side. Two very quick singles are risked and completed, before Smith gets another one down the ground. Watson takes two to a creaky McGrath at third man, and then grabs a single to keep the strike. Ten runs from that over, as the Royals continue their recovery. Over 7: The batsmen scramble a single off Yo Mahesh's first ball, and Smith would have been just short of his ground had de Villiers hit the stumps. The South African skipper gets a single, and then Mahesh drops short and is pulled for a big six over square leg by Watson. A new ball is required. The final delivery of the over goes for four over mid on as Rajasthan gets back on track. Over 6: Shane Watson is the new man at the crease, and Smith hands him the strike as Pradeep Sangwan is introduced. The Aussie gets off the mark with his second delivery, before Sangwan strays onto Smith's pads and is put away to the fine leg boundary. Over 5: Delhi's excellent start to the Royals' innings continues, as McGrath restricts the batsmen to one single, which forces the run out from the final ball. Smith plays across the line to midwicket and takes off, but Sehwag dives to cut it off and throw to the keeper who whips the bails off as Kaif stands in exactly the spot he inhabited when Smith hit the ball. Smith nips past him to safety and Kaif departs. This is the lowest IPL total from the first five overs. Over 4: Pathan is run out by some fantastic work by de Villiers! The batsman was backing up too far at the non-striker's end, and de Villiers swooped in from mid off and pulled off a direct hit to find him an inch short of his ground despite a last-ditch dive. The rest of the over from Maharoof is very tight, as Smith and new batsman Mohammad Kaif can only manage two singles and a wide. Over 3: It's the usual stingy stuff from McGrath, who concedes just three singles and a wide before having an LBW shout against Pathan turned down off the final ball. Over 2: Farveez Maharoof is the other opening bowler, but drops short and is cut through point for four first up. Pathan heaves the second ball just over mid off's head for a couple, but Maharoof responds in fine style, sending down four dot balls. Over 1: Pathan enjoys a couple of sighters, before kicking things off with a mow across the line to get one past midwicket. And Smith is put down first ball! He flicked it straight to Mishra at short square leg, and he puts down a fairly easy chance. However's Pathan's single remains the only run from McGrath's opener. Off we go again, with Graeme Smith and Yusuf Pathan opening the innings for Rajasthan. Glenn McGrath will bowl the first over.
INNINGS TOTAL: Delhi 156/7 after 20 overs. Over 20: Watson is tasked with bowling the final over and does a good job of it. Dilshan gets a single from the first ball and Maharoof gets four from the second with a top edge over the keeper's head. But then his splendid innings is brought to an end, as a full toss is lashed down third man's throat. A bye and a single are all Yo Mahesh and Dilshan can manage from the remainder of the innings. Over 19: Dilshan takes a single from the first ball of Warne's final over, but then Maharoof gets stuck into him! He clears the man on the boundary at long off from a half tracker, and while he can't clear Kaif at long on, the fielder's diving catch results in six as he lands on the rope. Maharoof follows that up with two through the off side and then smashes a full toss over cow corner for another six! The final ball is also short and disappears over long on for the fourth six of the over. 27 runs from that, and suddenly the Daredevils are back in the game. Over 18: Dilshan realises he needs to make the most of Trivedi's final over, and pulls the first ball over square leg for four before clobbering the second ball over the long leg boundary. But there are just three runs from the rest of the over, so Trivedi still finishes with fine figures of two for 28. Over 17: Patel's final over begins with two dot balls, before Maharoof and Dilshan trade singles. Then Maharoof begins to wield the willow, and gets four over backward point and two straight down the ground. Over 16: Mishra's glance earns two from Trivedi's first ball, before Dilshan is nearly run out at the non-striker's end after his teammate sends him back. Two singles later Mishra departs, cean bowled after stepping away to leg side. Farveez Maharoof gets a leg bye from the final delivery as Rajasthan continue to tighten their grip on this game. Over 15: Amit Mishra is the new man for Delhi, but after a couple of singles Dilshan gets completely bogged down by the returning Patel. So just two runs from that over, and the Daredevils will do well to reach 150. Over 14: The pressure has been building and building and has become too much for de Villiers, who skies Mascarenhas to Warne, who runs across from cover to take the catch at mid off. The skipper looks incredibly relieved to snare it, having waited an age for it to drop. Tillakaratne Dilshan is the next man in, but three balls later he loses partner Karthik caught behind. Mascarenhas' second spell has been excellent - he went for two for 11 from his last two overs - and Delhi are in all sorts of trouble. Over 13: Karthik slog-sweeps Warne for four from his second delivery, but the rest of the over is limited to ones and twos. Eight in total from the over. Over 12: Mascarenhas returns, and de Villiers drives his first ball uppishly through cover and gets two. The next ball nips back considerably, having probably hit one of the cracks on the pitch, and results in a leg bye. Karthik works two behind square on the off side, but can only get one from the remainder of the over, so it's a good return from Mascarenhas who clearly benefited from having the keeper standing up to the stumps. Over 11: Delhi are having the life squeezed out of them here, as another Warne over results in just seven runs. The Daredevils need a big partnership from these two to revitalise the innings. Over 10: It's a tight over from Trivedi, and he gets the big wicket of Gambhir. Three singles and a wide come from the first four balls, and the fifth knocks Gambhir's off stump over as the slower one deceives him. A dot ball to Dinesh Karthik makes it four runs and a wicket from the over. Over 9: Shane Warne brings himself on with a slip in place, but de Villiers works the single off the first delivery before Gambhir nearly runs himself out scrambling a single of his own. A direct hit would have had him. De Villiers gets two from the penultimate delivery and then takes a single to keep the strike once again. Over 8: A new batsman and a new bowler, as AB de Villiers faces up to Siddharth Trivedi, who goes for a couple of singles before de Villiers gets two behind square on the on side. Two balls later he gets two more with a textbook drive through extra cover, and then keeps the strike with a single down to fine leg. Over 7: Gambhir steals a single to Warne at gully to put new batsman Shikhar Dhawan on strike against Patel, and he's immediately off the mark with two runs wide of third man. Two singles later and Dhawan is run out, sacrificing his wicket after Gambhir had left his crease prematurely at the non-striker's end. It sure sucks being a junior player... Over 6: Sehwag takes a single from Watson's second delivery, before Watson drops short and Gambhir swings hard to lift it over point for four. A single puts Sehwag back on strike, and he square drives the final delivery straight to the man at point to bring a scratchy innings to an end. Over 5: A couple of singles and a wide are followed up by a fine glance for four by Sehwag as Munaf Patel is introduced. Two more singles and a leg bye complete a productive over comprising 10 runs. Over 4: Watson continues, and this time Gambhir gets hold of him as he advances down the wicket to drive to the cover boundary. A single is followed by a very quick, very short bouncer, and Sehwag can only get one from the final ball of another tight over from Watson. Over 3: Sehwag mows Mascarenhas across the line but only gets one, and Gambhir hands the strike back straight away. Another mow gets four through midwicket, and is followed by a couple more singles. Eight from the over. A quick mention about the pitch, which has some rather large cracks and appears to have plenty of glue holding it together. So it's nice and glossy and looks fairly hard, but Mascarenhas has already shown that if you find one of those cracks it can alter the pace of the ball quite radically. Over 2: Shane Watson opens from the other end, and Sehwag gets his second ball down to third man for a single. Watson beats Gambhir twice outside off stump, before straying onto the pads and being lifted fine of square leg for two. However Gambhir's beaten again off the final ball, so that really was a fine over from the Aussie. Over 1: Gambhir gets a huge slice of luck first up, inside-edging the ball past his leg stump and down to the boundary, and the tournament's leading run scorer follows it up with three through the cover region. Then Sehwag gets lucky, as his leading edge finds a gap between cover and extra cover, before Gambhir gets four over midwicket. A dot ball keeps it down to 12 from Mascarenhas' first IPL over. Out comes the detructive pairing of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, and they'll be facing up to Mascarenhas in the first over. Teams: Rajasthan: 1 Graeme Smith, 2 Yusuf Pathan, 3 Mohammad Kaif, 4 Shane Watson, 5 Niraj Patel, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Dimitri Mascarenhas, 8 Shane Warne (capt), 9 Mahesh Rawat (wk), 10 Siddharth Trivedi, 11 Munaf Patel. Delhi: 1 Virender Sehwag (capt), 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Shikhar Dhawan, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 6 Dinesh Karthik (wk), 7 Amit Mishra, 8 V Yomahesh, 9 Glenn McGrath, 10 Farveez Maharoof, 11 Pradeep Sangwan. The big news teamwise is that Dimitri Mascarenhas will make his IPL debut. He's due back in Blighty soon, so I guess they decided they might as well get something out of him in return for the large pot of money he'll be receiving. The toss has been won by Shane Warne, and the Royals will field first first. Greetings to you all and welcome to the second IPL match of the day, which holds great potential as the Rajasthan Royals take on the Delhi Daredevils. The Royals are currently top of the table with 12 points, while the Daredevils are in fourth with eight points having played a game less than their opponents today.
